Seneca Nation officials, Kaleida Health, and the Seneca Diabetes Foundation proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Geraldine Memmo Center for Wound Care at Buffalo General Medical Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday afternoon.
This new Center, made possible by the generous support of the Seneca Diabetes Foundation, is dedicated to providing advanced, patient-centered care for those with complex and non-healing wounds. Located on the first floor of Buffalo General, the Center offers specialized treatment options for diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and more—helping patients heal, recover, and improve their quality of life.
Named in honor of Geraldine Memmo, Wolf Clan, a beloved Seneca Nation leader known for her lifelong commitment to serving others, the Center stands as a tribute to her legacy of compassion and community advocacy. “The Memmo Family is pleased to have the legacy of our beloved matriarch attached to such a meaningful and impactful healthcare initiative for our community,” shared David P. Santana, Sr., grandson of Geraldine Memmo.
“On behalf of the Seneca Diabetes Foundation and the Memmo family, we are honored to see Geraldine Memmo’s legacy recognized through a center dedicated to healing and hope,” said Michael R. Militello, vice-chairman, Seneca Diabetes Foundation.
“Gerri Memmo was an inspirational woman who lived every day of her life to give back to her community,” said Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca. “This new center will be a blessing for people in need of important wound care services and will be especially helpful for the Seneca and other Native communities, where health challenges like diabetes are prevalent and where access to needed services is far too often a difficult obstacle. Opening this center in Gerri’s name is a fitting tribute to her legacy of building bridges and expanding access to care for Seneca and other Native people on our territories and throughout the region.”
