To date, close to $2.6 million has been committed to prevention, wellness and treatment programs to help the Seneca people. Some program funding highlights include:
- Established partnership with Independent Health to bring “Good for the Neighborhood” program to the Seneca Nation providing a free, three-year diabetes education and prevention program for all Senecas.
- Facilitated an academic scholarship through Independent Health for a Seneca student pursuing a physician’s degree in medicine.
- Purchased two medically-equipped transport vans to be used by SNI Health Department for dialysis patients for treatment.
- Funding a pediatric and adult endocrinologist to treat both adolescents and adult Seneca patients through the Seneca Nation Health Department. This is being paid for through a $1.5 million endowment established with John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.
- Funded state-of-the-art software technology for SNI Health Department to effectively track treatment and progress of Senecas with diabetes.
- Funded the down payment for a new ambulance for Cattaraugus Territory.
- Funded the purchase of an optical retinal scanner for the Seneca Nation Health Department.
- Established in 2007 an annual scholarship program for qualified Seneca students – undergraduates and graduate studies. The availability of the scholarships are advertised annually. Students have to qualify academically for a reward. These are open to all Senecas in a health care field. Scholarships are awarded after a thorough review of all submitted nominations.
- Helped the Recreation Departments fund the winter ski program in 2010 for Senecas on both territories.
- Funded the annual Grandparent Summer Camp Program and sponsor Seneca sports tournaments.
